Charlie Savage has completed a permanent move to League One side Reading from Manchester United, subject to EFL approval.

Savage, 20, has spent his entire career to date at United, having completed the full Academy journey from Under-9s through to appearing for our first team in 2021.

The club is proud of Charlie's journey so far and his move to play in League One gives the midfielder a chance to continue his development in a new environment, in a competitive division.

He posted an emotional farewell to United, the club he joined as a five-year-old, on his Twitter account on Saturday afternoon.

Savage joined the Reds as a youth player aged just nine and has been with the United Academy ever since.

He signed his first professional deal with the club in 2021 and was handed his senior debut for the Reds on 8 December the same year, coming on as a substitute in a UEFA Champions League match against Young Boys.

Last season, Charlie made 17 appearances for United's Under-21s, in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy, scoring one goal.

He went on loan to Forest Green Rovers for the second part of the 2022/23 campaign, playing 15 times and getting on the scoresheet once for the League Two side.

Savage has represented Wales from Under-17s to Under-21s level, and leaves United having made 74 appearances for our youth teams.

Everyone at Manchester United would like to express our pride in watching Charlie develop over the years, and issue our best wishes to the Academy graduate. We will be monitoring his progress very closely over the coming years.
