Eriksen: Martinez is still one of the boys

Sunday 09 March 2025 21:09

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen addressed what having injured defender Lisandro Martinez in the dressing room before the Arsenal game meant to his team-mates.

The Reds drew 1-1 with the Gunners, as Bruno Fernandes's free-kick was levelled by Declan Rice's strike, and Martinez, out for the season with a knee injury, watched on as Ruben Amorim's side came agonisingly close to taking all three points.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Eriksen said: "We see him often at the training ground obviously, so he's still one of the boys.

"And we know what he's going through with his rehab, and a few other guys.

"Anyone who comes and supports the games is a good sign. And, yeah, we're just waiting for everyone to come back really."

Are the Reds content with a point? Christian Eriksen shares the overall feeling among the United players...

Licha has been absent since suffering a cruciate-ligament injury in our home match against Crystal Palace at the start of February.

The defender has since had an operation as part of his recovery process, and shared an update on social media last month saying: "The surgery went perfectly!!"

He was in Old Trafford ahead of our Premier League match against Arsenal to cheer his fellow team-mates on ahead of a tough assignment.

The support the Argentina international showed by turning up on Sunday afternoon is something that was also noted by head coach Amorim.

"I feel that we are improving in certain things," the Reds boss said. "Not just on the field but also outside the field.

"The way they behave in the changing room, the way I see Licha here and not in Argentina, recovering.

"He is here, suffering with the team. That is a very good signal for our team."
