Christian Eriksen in action for Man Utd on Tour 2023 during pre-season

Christian Eriksen is looking ahead to the forthcoming season with real optimism that Manchester United can successfully build on a promising first campaign under Erik ten Hag's tutelage.

The Reds were triumphant in the League Cup in 2022/23 and came very close to adding a second piece of silverware, but were narrowly beaten in the Emirates FA Cup final by rivals Manchester City at Wembley.

With the countdown well and truly on for the start of the new competitive season, Eriksen is hoping his second term as a Red will prove even more fruitful on the trophy front.

Christian talks about our young Reds and the return of competitive action soon in a sit-down chat in the States...

“I think, in the end, we were satisfied with one trophy but definitely, of course, sad with losing the other final [in the FA Cup] to get one more trophy in that season,” Christian reflected, whilst speaking to club media out in the United States as part of Tour 2023.

“But I think it was a good start with the new manager and for me personally the first season and then now really it’s time to kick on and be better than last season. So definitely the aim is more trophies and hopefully as many finals that we can [reach] and then really show what we’re capable of in the league but also now in the Champions League.”

Although there are three more pre-season fixtures still to play, our no.14 is very much looking forward to stepping out at the Theatre of Dreams again when Wolves are the visitors on 14 August for our opening Premier League match of 2023/24.

Christian believes strong home form will once again be crucial and our magnificent support will also play their part.

“I think the whole of last season it was exceptional to play at Old Trafford with all of the wins we got, so it’s definitely something we have to take with us for next season,” he told us.

“The fans are going to help us and we will try to give it back to the fans so they are going to enjoy coming to the games as well. It will be a nice first game definitely.”

Of course, the UEFA Champions League and all of its splendour makes a welcome return to Old Trafford this season. Given how hard the Reds had to battle to earn our place in the competition, Eriksen feels it’s something we must replicate every year and prove our capability to compete at European football’s top table.

“I think it’s one of the tournaments you enjoy the most to play in, it’s just a prestige tournament to be in,” said the Danish international.

“You know how difficult it is to get into it when you’re not there and now finally when you’re there, it’s just about being there every year - which of course you try to do in the league but now we have to enjoy being there but also being able to show what we can do in the Champions League.”
