Eriksen: We should get the three points

Christian Eriksen said Manchester United ‘had the three points in our hand’ and should have been able to hold on for a victory against Burnley at Old Trafford.

The Reds looked set to be on our way to a narrow success against the Lancashire club, when Antony broke the deadlock with 10 minutes remaining, but Zeki Amdouni equalised from the spot, after he was fouled by Andre Onana inside the box.

The Dane was disappointed that we couldn’t maintain that late advantage and take maximum points from the Premier League encounter.

Christian discusses his disappointment at falling short against Burnley and rediscovering his rhythm in our midfield...

Speaking to MUTV after the game, our no.14 said: “Well, obviously, we had the three points in our hand.

“And going into the last minutes of ordinary time, I think we should be able to keep a clean sheet and then get the three points.”

Prior to the midweek win over Sheffield United, Eriksen hadn’t started for the Reds in the league since mid-January.

Assessing his own display, he added: “Of course, I still think there's some bits that still could be better today, a few decisions that could have been better and put my team-mate or myself in a better position around the pitch.

“I'm trying to do my best. It hasn't been as much game time, but when you're on it, I think you have to do your best. And that's what I'm trying to do.”

Erik ten Hag’s side now face a nine-day period without a game – next returning to action away to Crystal Palace on Bank Holiday Monday, for our penultimate away game of the Premier League season.

Eriksen expects it to be a strange period but hopes the Reds can make the most of an opportunity to get to work at Carrington for an extended spell.

“It's going to be full focus on the recovery,” continued the experienced midfielder. “It’s going to be weird because it's going to be a long week with no games.

“It's going to hopefully make everyone ready and fit for the Monday game at Palace. It’s going to be some days with some days off, some training, get yourself mentally and physically ready, and then we go again.

Usain reveals his record of watching United at Old Trafford, and discusses ending the season strongly...

“Playing the games is always what you want to do, every game and every day. It's different.

“Sometimes you need a bit of a rest to recover and prepare for the next game. It depends what the manager is going to do in training sessions or how much we're going to prepare and what we're going to do until the next game.”
