'We're heading in the right direction'

Fresh from supporting Coldplay on their huge 2023 European Tour, Martin Doherty from CHVRCHES stopped by to watch the Reds in full flow recently.

A huge United fan, the 40-year-old Scot was invited to watch Erik ten Hag's side in training, as the team continues our venture across the US this summer on Tour 2023.

And with the new campaign now fast approaching, there is a real sense of optimism about what can be achieved in M16 and beyond, during the boss's second season at the helm.

Martin echoed the very same sentiment whilst speaking to club media earlier this week, insisting there isn't much not to like about the way the Reds are going about our business, as of late.

A chat with CHVRCHES

MUTV's cameras caught up with Martin Doherty from synth-pop band CHVRCHES, to chat all things United ahead of 2023/24...

''Massively,'' Doherty responded, when asked if he is excited for the upcoming campaign.

''To me, the club is heading in the right direction yet again, [we've made] some great signings.

''Mason Mount coming in, especially for the money, is really good. [That's] really strong.''

With Erik still boasting the best win-percentage of any United boss, his side qualified for the Champions League in fine fashion, whilst also winning the Carabao Cup, as well as reaching the 2023 Emirates FA Cup final.

''I think he has handled himself really well, a classy guy clearly,'' Martin added.

''On the pitch, I think they are playing the right kind of football, the kind of football I like to see and I think the fans want to watch.

''If we can translate that away form into as good as we are at home, we're flying.''

Erik has reached a half-century of matches as United manager but how do his stats compare with previous bosses?

With Andre Onana also now through the door and forward Marcus Rashford tied down with a fresh five-year-deal, the musician from Clydebank amplified his excitement at the group of players the Dutchman has at his disposal.

''To me, the biggest thing was locking Rashford down for another five years and it's really important to the ethos of the club, bringing youngsters through.

''He is just growing and growing and the Bruno [Fernandes] captaincy is obviously the big talking point for me.

''For me, he is our best player and giving him the extra stamp and we'll see that loyalty and that bringing of the team together even more. I don't know him but he sees like the right kind of guy to lead the club.''
