Competition: Win a Bruno Fernandes home shirt

Making his first appearance in pre-season, our Portuguese midfielder opened the scoring in our 2-0 win over the Gunners with a brilliant left-footed finish from outside the box.

His all-round game was impressive, too, as United pressed from the front effectively against our Premier League counterparts, with Bruno’s relentless performance in midfield perfectly embodying that style of play.

Although withdrawn at the break, as manager Erik ten Hag made 10 changes at half-time, the midfielder’s impact in the first half was sufficient for United’s two first-half goals to win the game.

Not only that, but Fernandes’ performance clearly left a mark on supporters, who voted our no.8 as their Man of the Match in our poll on ManUtd.com and in the official app.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Bruno said: “We had a great spirit, won the game, that’s the most important. We are getting minutes in our legs to get in the best shape as possible for the beginning of the season.”

Bruno took a 36 per cent share of the voting from our fans, narrowly edging out impressive youngster Kobbie Mainoo in the final rankings.

Mainoo provided the assist for Fernandes’ opener, and received a 34 per cent share of the vote, as he showed plenty of encouraging signs while looking at home in midfield, alongside Bruno and summer signing Mason Mount in that opening 45 minutes.

There was also recognition for Jadon Sancho in the voting, taking an 11 per cent share of the recognition as he netted United’s second, seven minutes after Fernandes’ breakthrough strike.
