Ole names FA Cup XI to face Liverpool

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made five changes to the Manchester United starting XI who came away with a Premier League win against Fulham last Wednesday for today’s FA Cup fourth-round blockbuster against Liverpool.

The Reds won 2-1 at Craven Cottage but the boss has recalled his FA Cup goalkeeper Dean Henderson, allowing David de Gea a rest although the Spain international is named on the bench.

Victor Lindelof partners skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of defence with Eric Bailly making way.

There are two changes in our midfield with Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek coming in for Fred and Bruno Fernandes. Up front, Marcus Rashford is back in a three-pronged strike force alongside Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood.

Anthony Martial, who played in midweek in London, is on the bench for the Old Trafford tie.

The boss discusses his five changes for the Liverpool game, in our pitchside interview at Old Trafford...

Discussing the Cup tie, Ole told club media and BBC Sport: "I think it’s one of the most iconic FA Cup ties you can ask for and, of course, we know it’s going to be a difficult one. You know, if you manage to go through in one of these, it might give you very good momentum and belief, like we did in ’99.

"You can’t wait for a trophy. You have to go and get it and make it happen yourself. Of course, we go into this game wanting to progress. We know the next game is a home game as well, so of course it’s a big game for us."

Asked about the inclusions of van de Beek and Henderson, Ole said: "Well, it’s rotation in the squad. Donny needs to play games as well, it’s a big game for Donny to come in to. He’s done noting wrong when he’s been around, so I look forward to seeing him.

"Both Donny and Dean impress in training everyday and, of course, they work hard to get opportunities in every game. It’s a big game, it’s against the best team in England over the last few seasons, so for us it's a good challenge.”
