Solskjaer reveals his quarter-final line-up

Monday 10 August 2020 18:45

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his Manchester United starting XI for the Europa League quarter-final against FC Copenhagen in Cologne.

The United manager admitted at his pre-match press conference that he faced a dilemma over who to pick in goal and he has gone for Sergio Romero between the posts.

The back four is made up of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, captain Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams, who penned a new United deal last week. Fred anchors the midfield alongside Paul Pogba, while Bruno Fernandes once again supports the in-form attacking trio of Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The Reds have 12 substitutes, including the likes of David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo.

Discussing his starting XI, Ole told MUTV: "Whatever XI I would have picked, I feel it would have been a strong one. Some players didn’t play last Wednesday and of course it’s a few weeks since we played against Leicester and we need to be ready and we need to be sharp.

"The players have trained well and it was time to put some of them back in. Of course Fred, Sergio, Brandon, Harry and Eric played last week and I thought they did really well so hopefully we can have a good performance.

when asked about the tie becoming a one-legged match, rather than a two-legged event, the manager replied: "Of course it’s different. It’s a bit surreal anyway. We know that if we can go through we’ll have another great game in the semis and it’s the same for everyone. We've got 90 minutes plus extra time if we need to, but of course playing them at Old Trafford would have been an advantage."

Here are the two line-ups in full...

United: Romero; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire (c), Williams; Pogba, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.
