Ole confirms starting XI v Sevilla

Sunday 16 August 2020 18:45

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his Manchester United starting XI to face Sevilla in the Europa League semi-final.

The United boss has made two changes to the side that started the quarter-final against FC Copenhagen with David De Gea replacing Sergio Romero in goal and Victor Lindelof coming in for Eric Bailly in the backline.

Speaking to MUTV and BT Sport about his team selection, Ole said: "I've picked the team that we think is the best to play against this opponent, to get us through to the final from the start. We might have to make substitutions, or we will have to make them. We’ve got people ready to come off the bench as well.

"Of course it’s difficult to make [a decision] when Sergio has played well. He’s never let us down, or himself down - he’s such a professional guy. But David has been really good in training and he’s so ready. He saved us against Sevilla last time and I hope he proves to make the difference for us. It’s a privilege to have two good goalkeepers.

"It’s probably the toughest opponent we’ve had since lockdown and hopefully we’re going to prove to them that we’re the toughest opponent they’ve had since lockdown," he added.

"Hopefully we can start on the front foot and show some aggression and be better off the ball. I thought against Copenhagen we let them have too much of the ball. Hopefully today we can really press Sevilla."

The Reds will be aiming to go one better than in our other previous semi-finals this season after we narrowly lost out to Manchester City and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup respectively.

Ole knows his men will face a stern test this evening against a Sevilla side who are Europa League experts having won the competition five times, including three times in a row in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The two teams line up as follows:

United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire (c), Williams; Fred, Pogba; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Substitutes: Romero, Grant, Bailly, Fosu-Mensah, Mengi, Mata, Matic, McTominay, James, Lingard, Andreas, Ighalo.

Sevilla: Bounou; Jesus Navas (c), Kounde, Diego Carlos, Reguilon; Banega, Fernando, Jordan; Suso, En-Nesyri, Ocampos.

Substitutes: Vaclik (GK), Sanchez (GK), Sergi Gomez, Munir, Gudelj, Escudero, L. de Jong, Oliver Torres, Vazquez, Jose Alonso, Genaro, Pablo Perez.

The game kicks off at 20:00 BST and you can follow it live in our Match Centre.
