United pair picked for Teams of the Year

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Ona Batlle have been recognised for their excellent seasons on a personal level, by being voted into their respective Team of the Year at the PFA Awards.

The two select XIs, representing the Premier League and the Women's Super League, were voted for by their fellow professionals.

Ronaldo's inclusion in the men's team follows a stunning return to English football with United. The 37-year-old was named the club's Player of the Year after topping the official poll on ManUtd.com and the United App, and the Portuguese icon also scored the Goal of the Season, against Tottenham Hotspur - one of 24 strikes in total, 18 of which came in the league.

The full line-up for 2021/22 also features the PFA Players' Player of the Year, Mo Salah, in attack and reads as follows:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Rudiger, Cancelo; Bernardo, Thiago, De Bruyne; Mane, Ronaldo, Salah.

It's the fifth time Cristiano has been voted into the PFA team in England's top flight, following his selection in 2005/06, 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09.
Meanwhile, Batlle's place in the WSL Team of the Year acknowledges her contributions to Marc Skinner's Reds throughout a thrilling season - her second at the club.

The Spain international became the first player from her country to feature in our women's team when she arrived from Levante in the summer of 2020. At the end of her debut campaign, the attacking full-back was named United Women's Player of the Year by the coaching staff and her team-mates.

Batlle may have passed that baton to Ella Toone and Alessia Russo this term, as the winners of our fan-voted and player-voted awards respectively for 2021/22. But the Spaniard continued to impress her colleagues and opponents while helping United to finish fourth in the WSL and push rivals Manchester City all the way to the final day in the race for a Women's Champions League place.

Sam Kerr, who scored twice against the Reds in the last game for title-winners Chelsea, was named PFA Players' Player of the Year.

The WSL Team of the Year is: Berger; Batlle, Bright, Williamson, Greenwood; Reiten, Weir, Little; Miedema, Kerr, Hemp.

Congratulations to Cristiano and Ona on being picked for the all-star line-ups by their peers.
