Help Ronaldo win Goal of the Month

Thursday 24 March 2022 13:00

The stunning opening goal of Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur has been nominated for the Premier League’s March Goal of the Month award.

United beat Spurs 3-2 in our most recent top-flight meeting, with Ronaldo scoring his first United hat-trick for 14 years.

Our no.7’s sublime 25-yard effort set us on the way to victory and brought back memories of some of the very best strikes from Ronaldo’s initial spell at Old Trafford, with some comparing it to his Champions League match-winner in Porto from 2009.

Raphael Varane played the ball forward and Fred teed up Ronaldo with a neat flick-on, before the 37-year-old thrashed a shot into the top corner beyond the despairing dive of the visitors’ keeper Hugo Lloris.

While Cristiano’s second and third strikes threatened to raise the roof at the Theatre of Dreams, it is the first which is up for the league accolade, as Ronaldo is nominated for the second consecutive month.

The Portuguese forward missed out to Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha in February and he is up against seven other players this time around.

Ronaldo’s international team-mate and Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is nominated for his lob against Watford, while two Chelsea players in Reece James and Kai Havertz have made the list.

Two goals scored in the recent Watford v Arsenal game – from Cucho Hernandez and Gabriel Martinelli – are also up for the award, as is Newcastle's new signing Bruno Guimaraes’s backheel volley and Timothy Castagne’s long-ranger for Leicester versus Brentford.

To help Cristiano in his bid to win this award for the first time, please vote for him here.
