Ronaldo overtakes a United legend on the goals table

Friday 24 September 2021 07:00

With his opportunistic finish against West Ham last weekend, showing the predatory instincts he has become famed for, Cristiano Ronaldo moved up a place in Manchester United’s list of all-time goalscorers.

The Portuguese club legend latched onto a cross from his compatriot Bruno Fernandes and, after an initial shot was saved by the goalkeeper, he calmly prodded home into the bottom corner - as you can see in the highlights.

It was Cristiano’s fourth goal since completing a sensational transfer back to United in August: he had previously scored twice on his return against Newcastle and again versus Young Boys.

CR7 now has 122 goals as a Red and that is one more than Andy Cole, the much-loved Treble winner whom he has overtaken into 17th place on the club’s illustrious goals chart. As you would expect, he isn't finished there...

WHO IS NEXT ON THE LIST?

In an interesting twist, Ronaldo’s former team-mate and current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ranked 16th on the all-time goals chart with 126 strikes to his name.

Cristiano needs four more finishes to move alongside the Norwegian and five to overtake him, which is entirely possible before the next international break takes place in October, considering his electric form.

The Reds’ next match is against Aston Villa in the Premier League this Saturday and that is followed by a Champions League blockbuster with Villarreal next Wednesday.

Then comes another top-flight engagement, versus Everton at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday 2 October.
