Ronaldo reacts to Sunday's Liverpool defeat

Monday 25 October 2021 09:26

Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked the Manchester United fans for the defiant support that was shown during Sunday’s chastening defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Reds suffered a painful 5-0 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders on what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has described as his darkest day in management.

Ronaldo thought he had pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute when he finished into the bottom corner of Liverpool’s net, but it was ruled out after an intervention by the Video Assistant Referee moments later.

Matters were made worse when substitute Paul Pogba was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Naby Keita, following another VAR consultation, much to the delight to the away end.

It was a difficult experience for our fans, but those inside the stadium kept on supporting the team and, if anything, the noise levels only grew as the minutes ticked by.

The manager has given his verdict on a painful day at Old Trafford...

Our match-going fans always get behind the team, no matter the circumstances, and that support has already been acknowledged by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw

In a Instagram post late on Sunday night, Ronaldo shared this message with our fans: “Sometimes the result is the not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want.
“And this is on us, only on us, because there's no one else to blame. Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support.

“They deserve better than this, much better, and it's up to us to deliver. The time is now!”

United now have a matchless midweek before travelling to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday, when the Reds have an opportunity to bounce back.
