Fletcher to take charge of United v Brighton

Darren Fletcher has confirmed that he will take charge of Manchester United in Sunday's Emirates FA Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The former Reds midfielder began a spell as our interim head coach with a 2-2 draw away to Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Shortly after that fixture at Turf Moor, our current Under-18s boss confirmed that he will continue in his new position at the weekend.

"I have [heard from Omar and Jason] and they informed me they'd like me to take the team for Sunday," he said.

"I had the feeling that might be the case from Monday but wanted to focus on Burnley.

"So I am tasked with leading the team on Sunday and all my focus and energy goes into that."

Fletcher had explained to reporters before the Burnley game that all his efforts were going into the Turf Moor clash, after replacing departed head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday.

He was supported in the dugout on Wednesday by Academy coaches Travis Binnion and Alan Wright, along with former team-mate Jonny Evans, and attentions will now turn to the weekend's clash at the Theatre of Dreams.

Tickets for the third-round tie are available, as United begin our FA Cup campaign against the Seagulls, who we beat 4-2 in the Premier League earlier this season.
