This season's three loudest matches at Old Trafford

Thursday 23 February 2023 14:00

Erik ten Hag has asked the Manchester United supporters to create a historic atmosphere at Old Trafford this evening and our fans will undoubtedly rise to the challenge.

Since taking charge of the Reds, the manager has felt strongly about connecting with the crowd and an extremely powerful relationship has been forged.

Indeed, a special bond between our players and the fans has been absolutely evident this campaign, as Ten Hag’s men continue to fight for success in four different competitions.

Erik has asked our fans to raise the roof during tonight’s Europa League play-off second leg against Barcelona, with the tie currently level at 2-2 following an electrifying first leg at the Nou Camp.
Old Trafford must be electric 🏟⚡
Erik ten Hag says

"We are all on a journey together, moving forward game-by-game and, tonight, we need the fans, as well as the players, to be at the top of their game, if we are to create a memorable night at Old Trafford."

This exact fixture has conjured two of the most memorable atmospheres in United's history, of course, as those who attended the 1984 and 2008 victories will remember all too well.

Will this evening be another classic experience against the Catalans?

Sound experts at the club measure the decibel levels around Old Trafford during every home fixture and the results show that our fans have turned it up when it was needed the most this season.

We can confirm the three loudest matches in 2022/23 so far have been against our historic rivals in the Premier League.

Based on the average decibel level, our dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester City is the third loudest game so far (94.3dB), followed by September’s important 3-1 victory against Arsenal (94.9dB).

The loudest Old Trafford match this season is the 2-1 triumph over Liverpool in August (95.9dB), which was widely viewed as a turning point in our term following those back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

Following a request from fans, the music will be turned off inside the ground at 19:45 GMT, 15 minutes before kick-off, so the atmosphere can really start to build.

To maximise our home advantage, there is a hope spectators will be in their seats by then to sing their hearts out and show maximum support for Erik's men.
