De Gea and Earps celebrate Golden Glove successes

Manchester United goalkeepers David De Gea and Mary Earps celebrated their Golden Glove successes at Monday evening’s Player of the Year awards.

The pair have had prize-winning seasons between the posts for our men’s and women’s teams, topping the clean-sheet charts of the Premier League and Women's Super League respectively.

Both players have recently received the accolades to mark their achievements, which they brought along to yesterday’s end-of-season evening at Old Trafford, as we marked a memorable campaign at the club.

Two awards that are certainly in safe hands! Congratulations to both David and Mary.

De Gea was presented his award on the Theatre of Dreams pitch by Erik ten Hag, following Sunday’s win over Fulham in our 2022/23 Premier League finale.

The Spaniard kept 16 clean sheets across 38 matches, helping the Reds secure a third-place finish en route to topping the division’s shutout category for the second time in his career, following on from his 2017/18 triumph.

Earps kept her 14th clean sheet of the campaign in United’s 1-0 win at Liverpool on the final day of the WSL term.

The Reds’ efforts on Saturday unfortunately weren’t enough for the title, with leaders Chelsea also victorious on the afternoon, but it did bring down the curtain on a record-breaking season for Marc Skinner’s side, who recorded a second-place finish in the end.

Mary’s tally – on her way to winning the prize for the first time since it was introduced in 2019/20 - was also a milestone in itself, with no goalkeeper ever keeping more clean sheets in a single term of the competition than our women’s team’s no.27 did in 2022/23.

Our keepers also became just the second duo to win the respective Golden Glove prizes in the Premier League and the WSL in the same year after Manchester City’s Ederson and Ellie Roebuck achieved the feat in the inaugural season of the women's accolade.

David and Mary have formed a strong bond as part of our goalkeepers’ union at United over the last four years, and have regularly been a beacon of support for each other, as seen at the teams’ recent matches.

Mary watched on at Old Trafford during the Reds’ recent Premier League win over Chelsea, embracing David on his way off the pitch, less than a week after the latter was spotted at Leigh Sports Village cheering Earps and co on to victory in a WSL derby against Manchester City.

Congratulations to both of our goalkeepers on their terrific league terms!
