De Gea up for Save of the Season award

Wednesday 25 May 2022 12:00

Manchester United's David De Gea has been nominated twice for the Premier League's Castrol Save of the Season award.

The Spaniard was in inspired form for much of 2021/22, and is the only goalkeeper to appear more than once in the shortlist.

Supporters can vote for our no.1 from 12:00 BST today (Wednesday), with the winning save due to be announced by the Premier League on Saturday 28 May at 15:00 BST.

You can vote for David here, but which of his two saves should you choose?

'The double save from De Gea is extraordinary!'

David De Gea executed this instinctive double save during a tight 1-0 win over Wolves in August 2021...

De Gea has been recognised for efforts against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City, respectively – both of which date back to the early months of the 2021/22 season.

The first? A superb, scarcely plausible double-save to deny Moroccan defender Roman Saiss at Molineux.

Joao Moutinho's corner appeared to have given his Wolves colleague the perfect opportunity to open the scoring, but his close-range header was miraculously repelled by the United keeper.

And when the ball bounced back to Saiss, who was by then even closer to the Reds' goal, De Gea was there again to divert the ball away, setting the platform for us to go on and find a late winner.
Less than two months later, De Gea was part of the United team that visited the King Power Stadium to face Leicester.

And when Youri Tielemans pulled the trigger from just outside the box, with the score at 1-1, De Gea sprang to his right and managed to impart a vital touch on the ball, sending it onto the post and away.

De Gea has already won three club Player of the Month awards during 2021/22, and was named as the Premier League's outstanding player in January – the first goalkeeper to claim that particular prize for almost six years.

De Gea’s save to deny Tielemans

David thwarted Youri Tielemans with this incredible stop at Leicester back in October...

Across the entirety of the recent league season, only Illan Meslier (Leeds United) and Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) made more saves than David's 128.

Vote now for our no.1 and help him claim yet another well-deserved accolade.

Congratulations on your nominations, David.
