De Gea: We'll give everything to win the cup

Monday 29 May 2023 07:00

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea says the team will give "absolutely everything" to win the FA Cup on Saturday.

After helping the Reds end the season on a high with a 2-1 win over Fulham – in which David saved a penalty at 1-0 down – our no.1 is now looking ahead to our final game of the season, the historic first all-Manchester cup final at Wembley.

"Tomorrow we recover and we start to prepare for [the final]," he told MUTV after the game.

"We know it’s a big final, a special game, and the whole year we’ve been fighting to be in the position to win titles and we will try absolutely everything to try to win."

The Reds close out our Premier League season on a high, with another win at home.

De Gea was also keen to highlight the improvement we’ve made this season, after collecting his Premier League Golden Glove award on Sunday.

"The improvement is there, of course, we still have far [to go] but [it is] a massive improvement from last season," he said.

"Winning a cup, finishing third, it’s never easy to finish in Champions League places in England, and then we have another final, a big final – I think at the moment it is a great year."
Our shot-stopper believes we showed great character to come from behind and beat the Cottagers, overturning Kenny Tete's early header with goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes.

"The manager wants us to be focused every game, to win every game," David continued.

"He was shouting before the game ‘come on guys, we have to finish properly, winning mentality'.
Erik ten Hag presents David De Gea with his Golden Glove award.
"We showed again [at] 1-0 down, but then we created chances and could have scored more than two.

"But like I say, [it was] a big way to finish the season with a victory and give enjoyment to the fans."
