Ole feels De Gea is world's best again

David De Gea can lay claim to being the best keeper on the planet again if he keeps up his current form, according to Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Spaniard was outstanding in the 2-1 victory over Villarreal, winning our Man of the Match award by beating Cristiano Ronaldo into second place.

It continues the no.1's great work in 2021/22 which should also put him in the frame for our Player of the Month prize for September, with the nominees due to be confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

"Thankfully, we had the best goalkeeper in the world tonight," Ole said at his post-match press conference. "David was fantastic and I was very happy with his performance."

De Gea has bounced back after his penalty was saved in the Europa League final shoot-out defeat to Villarreal and was kept out of Spain's Euro 2020 side by Unai Simon.

"You are probably right that he had a difficult summer," accepted the manager. "After that, he went to the Euros, and didn’t play there, but he has come back with determination and a belief and, today, he got his deserved outcome.

“He saved us tonight, to be realistic. Without David, we have got good keepers in Tom [Heaton] and Dean [Henderson], but today David deserves Man of the Match for me.”
