Forlan's hopes for Pellistri

Diego Forlan is keen for his fellow Uruguayan Facundo Pellistri to be given more game-time at Manchester United.

Our former striker accepts it is difficult given the wealth of options open to manager Erik ten Hag but, after working with Pellistri at Penarol, he feels the winger will prove his quality at Premier League level.

The youngster, still only 21, came off the bench in our season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday and worked hard down the right flank as we held out for a 1-0 victory.

Former striker Diego Forlan believes it is a good time for players to come to Old Trafford...

After scoring our final goal of pre-season, the late equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Athletic Club in Dublin, Pellistri will be keen to keep providing an option for Ten Hag, with Tottenham up next in our first away game of the campaign on Saturday.

Having been an advocate of the wide man since his time as manager of Penarol, Forlan is keeping his fingers crossed that opportunities to impress will keep coming in the near future,

When we asked Diego at a club Academy event in Hong Kong for one player to look out for in 2023/24, he replied: "Well, I know Pellistri. I was his manager at Penarol, when he was playing there, then he left for United. So of course, you're aware [of him] and we want him to get more minutes.

"We know it's not easy. It's difficult. But he's a really good player and a nice guy.

"He scored a goal in the last game [of pre-season] and hopefully he can get more minutes at United."
