Leon and Fredricson with U21s for Barnsley clash

Tuesday 21 October 2025 17:41

Manchester United's Under-21s are in EFL Trophy action tonight (Tuesday), taking on Barnsley in a 19:00 BST kick-off.

Travis Binnion's squad for the Oakwell encounter includes defenders Tyler Fredricson and Diego Leon, as United look to put some points on the board in the Vertu-sponsored competition, following a 3-0 defeat at Lincoln City last time out.

Fredricson played in the Carabao Cup clash at Grimsby Town, while Leon has been on the bench three times in the Premier League this term, most recently for the 2-0 home win over Sunderland earlier this month.

Barnsley were also beaten in their opening outing, losing 2-1 to Notts County, so both teams will be looking to make their mark in Group D.

The Tykes are currently 10th in League One, after a 2-2 draw away at Bradford City on Saturday.

United's U21s, meanwhile, are top of Premier League 2 with six wins out of six, and always appreciate the test against senior opposition at this level.

If the tie is as entertaining as our visit to the South Yorkshire ground in 2024, when Jack Fletcher scored twice in a dramatic 3-2 win, it will be an absorbing occasion.

The match is not live on MUTV due to Sky Sports+ coverage but we will be providing updates from the ground and highlights on Wednesday morning.

We are screening Saturday's 12:00 BST kick-off against Tottenham Hotspur, though, in advance of the first-team game against Brighton & Hove Albion later on a busy day for the club, with the Under-18s facing Sunderland at Carrington.
