Leon makes senior Paraguay debut

Diego Leon has made his senior international debut for Paraguay, while Brazil surrendered a two-goal lead to lose to Japan in two friendlies taking place on Tuesday.

Leon, who had been an unused substitute in his country's draw with Japan, came off the bench for the final nine minutes of a 2-0 defeat to South Korea in Seoul. He replaced Sunderland's Omar Alderete, who played against Ruben Amorim's side in our last Premier League outing.

At only 18 years old, it is a phenomenal achievement for the Reds youngster, who joined the club from Cerro Porteno earlier this year.

By the time the wing-back was introduced, the South Americans already trailed to goals from Swansea City's Ji-sung Eom and Hyeon-gyu Oh of Genk. Diego is still to make his maiden senior appearance for United.

Matheus Cunha and Casemiro played for Brazil in Japan.

Meanwhile, at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo, Japan celebrated a first-ever victory over Brazil.

It was not looking on the cards when Carlo Ancelotti's men, captained by Casemiro, stormed into a 2-0 lead. Paulo Henrique opened the scoring on 25 minutes before Gabriel Martinelli added to the lead on the half-hour mark with a firm left-footed finish past keeper Zion Suzuki.

Takumi Minamino started the comeback, seven minutes into the second half, and Keito Nakamura hauled the hosts back onto level terms, when his volley from Junya Ito's far-post cross was helped into the net by Selecao defender Fabricio Bruno.

Matheus Cunha came on for Vinicius Jnr, in between those strikes, and almost made a telling impact. The Reds forward found the net with an emphatic shot but Luiz Henrique was ruled offside in the build-up.

Ayase Ueda then edged Japan in front, climbing to head a corner goalwards, with Hugo Souza probably feeling he could have kept it out, despite the power generated by the Feyenoord striker.

It proved enough to seal a win that will boost Japan, in advance of next year's World Cup finals, but Casemiro got another 90 minutes under his belt, ahead of Sunday's big Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Anfield.
