New shirt number for Dalot

Diogo Dalot is switching his Manchester United shirt number, ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The reliable defender returned to training at Carrington on Thursday, following his international exploits with Portugal, which included winning the UEFA Nations League.

As he took part in his first session in the Manchester sunshine in front of our cameras, it was noticeable that he was wearing no.2 rather than the no.20 that he has held since his arrival at the club from Porto in 2018.

We can confirm Diogo is making the switch on a permanent basis, taking over the slot left vacant by Victor Lindelof's exit over the summer.

Of course, the no.2 is traditionally the right-back's number and the 26-year-old has worn it for his country, on occasion.

Among previous wearers of the no.2 are one-club stalwart Gary Neville, who bore it on his shirt from 1994 until his 2011 retirement.

Wes Brown and Rafael are other recent incumbents, albeit that the former only wore it in the Manchester derby against City in 2008, that marked the 50th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster.

The news follows Matheus Cunha being assigned the no.10 and confirmation of three youngsters shifting squad position - Shea Lacey (61), Bendito Mantato (70) and Reece Munro (65).
