Dalot: The fans describe what this club is about

Saturday 30 October 2021 07:00

Diogo Dalot says Manchester United are ready to bounce back to winning ways, as he and his team-mates prepare to take on Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After the disappointment of last Sunday’s Liverpool defeat, the squad has completed an intense, hard-working week Carrington and everybody hopes to return from London this weekend with three points in the bag.

Our no.20 sat down with us before the game to explain how the team has prepared for the challenge of facing Spurs and stress the players’ determination to reward our loyal fans.

“I think the fans, they describe what the club is about,” says Diogo. “Even in the bad moments, they’re always there, they're always there supporting us. This needs to drive us as well, when things are not going the way that we wanted. Saturday is a fantastic opportunity for us to turn this around, to get back to the good results and we are looking forward to it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses the media ahead of United's trip to Tottenham...

“We know that we've come in with some results that we didn't want. But we need to move forward, and Tottenham is the perfect game to play. Against a very good team, away from home, with our away fans that are amazing in supporting us. We just need to see that as an advantage to go into Saturday and win the game.

“We have had more time to recover [than Tottenham]. So, it's been a good week to get energy back, to look forward to the game, we’ve prepared well, and obviously as soon as the referee blows his whistle we are ready to fight and try to win the game.”
Saturday will see United come up against Nuno Espirito Santo for the first time as Tottenham manager and Diogo is relishing the challenge of facing his fellow Portuguese compatriot.

“He is a fantastic coach,” says Diogo. “I mean, what he did in Wolverhampton was outstanding. Now he went to Spurs and is also doing a good job, so it's always a tough manager to go up against because he’s good, he's very good.

“So, we're going to have to be prepared for that, as well as obviously the fantastic players that their squad has. We need to be ready for any kind of challenge for this game.”

After the match against Spurs, United will travel to Italy to face Atlanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Dalot spent the entirety of last season playing for their Serie A rivals AC Milan and is looking forward to returning to the country.

“It’s going to be a good game; we know that the win we got against them last time was very important for the group. We are in first place, so we need to keep that up, we need to win as well but first, we are completely focused on Tottenham.”
