Dalot reveals Rangnick's greatest attribute

Thursday 06 January 2022 09:00

Diogo Dalot has praised interim manager Ralf Rangnick, explaining that the German's superb communication skills have particularly impressed him.

The full-back had made 35 appearances in three seasons at United before 2021/22, but has been granted several opportunities to shine since the German arrived at Old Trafford.

In an interview ahead of our Emirates FA Cup game with Aston Villa, the Portuguese admitted it had been a joy to gain more experience under Rangnick, and praised the 63-year-old's ability to express his ideas via crystal-clear communication.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick knew the job was going to be a difficult one.

“It’s been a joy to have the opportunity to play more, to help the team more and give my football to the team, which is why I’m here,” said Dalot.

“Every time you change managers, it’s a new opportunity and a new experience. He’s a very experienced coach with a lot of years in football. His philosophy is very good in terms of the way that he communicates with everyone and the way he expresses his thoughts to us.

“It’s been fantastic to get to know him and, hopefully, we can build the relationship between the players and the manager even more and bring that to the pitch so we can win more games and perform a lot better.”
The Reds made a winning start to life under Ralf thanks to a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in December, and Dalot was an important cog in the build-up to the match-winning moment, provided by Fred's elegant right-footed shot.

Diogo's incisive pass to Mason Greenwood was the goal's foundation, and the right-back believes that kind of action typifies what the new boss wants to see from him.

“I think the manager wants to get the best out of each player and, for me, it’s about bringing my best qualities into every game,” he explained, before listing the attributes in question.

“Drive forward, have the ball and try to serve the forward players, and, of course, defend well. Keep solid at the back and be physical and be aggressive – that’s my job as a full-back.”

Diogo was involved in the build-up to Fred's brilliant winner on Sunday...

United were unbeaten in eight games across all competitions before Monday's reverse to Wolves. But Dalot says it is vital we hit back against Aston Villa in a few days, with confidence the key to both individual and collective performances.

“It’s about confidence. It’s always different when you have confidence game after game,” he admitted. “I think recently was the best run of games that I’ve had at this club, which is a little bit of extra motivation and positivity for me, and I want to keep that going.

“That’s why I came to this club: to show that I can play a lot of games for this club and I think this is the right moment to show it. I want to have that responsibility and I will always make sure I give my best.”
