Dalot suffers injury blow

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has suffered an injury that will force him onto the sidelines.

The Portugal international, a real stalwart in the team, has suffered a calf problem.

Not only is he, of course, out of Sunday's Premier League trip to Bournemouth but he faces a fight to be fit before the campaign draws to a close next month.

When asked if the problem could rule the defender out of the remainder of 2024/25, head coach Ruben Amorim said: "There is that possibility but I don't know, we will check week by week, because he works really hard, he can recover quite well, so we will see.

"He has a problem with his muscle in his calf. He had a sequence of games, he played all the time. We tried to manage but some of the players have to play a lot of minutes and we have to protect the ones that we think are not so ready to cope with that, but Dalot felt something."

The boss is positive about two players closing on a return to action.

Nobody has made more appearances for the Reds this term than Dalot, who has played 51 times across all competitions.

Alejandro Garnacho has also been involved in the same amount of games, while captain Bruno Fernandes has racked up 50 outings in 2024/25.

In terms of starts, Diogo has made more than anybody else for United this season, 49, and this shows how important he has been to the cause.

The 26-year-old has been contributing more going forward in Amorim's wing-back system, particularly after switching to his more natural right side.

He scored in the thrilling win over Lyon last time out in the Europa League, and also in the previous round of the competition, against Real Sociedad, plus in the first phase in the win at FCSB.

Our last goal in the Premier League, during the loss at Newcastle United, came as a result of his determined drive forward and perfectly timed pass for Garnacho to finish smartly.

The very best of luck to Diogo in his recovery as everyone at the club sends our well wishes.
