Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from the Portugal squad ahead of their two upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying games.

Roberto Martinez's side have already clinched a place in the finals next year, as they currently have a 100 per cent record in Group J, winning all eight matches with a goal difference of 32-2.

A trip to Liechtenstein on Thursday and Sunday's home match with Iceland offer an opportunity to post a flawless campaign across this section, and boost confidence ahead of the main tournament in Germany.

After talks with coach Martinez, Dalot has been released for personal reasons. Porto's young right-back Joao Mario has been drafted in and is poised to make his senior international debut.

Meanwhile, Diogo's club colleague Bruno Fernandes remains part of the squad as the United captain looks to add to his 61 international caps and 18 goals.

Dalot, who has been capped 16 times so far by Portugal, has made 17 appearances for United this term. He scored a superb match-winning strike at Sheffield United, later voted our Goal of the Month for October.

The defender has also represented his national team four times over this period, helping to keep three clean sheets, as they have made light work of qualifying.
