Director of Academy Cox to leave for Everton
Nick Cox is leaving Manchester United to take up the role of Everton technical director.
Cox joined United in 2016 and was promoted to director of Academy in 2019. During this time, 35 players achieved first-team debuts and the Academy’s reputation as one of the most productive youth development systems in the world was further enhanced.
Nick departs with the best wishes of everyone at Manchester United and appreciation for his valuable contribution to supporting the succession of players who graduated from the Academy.
Cox also fostered a unique culture of excellence which ensured that every child engaged within the Academy was guaranteed an outstanding and inspirational education through football. This philosophy has seen countless young people maximise their potential and enjoy a range of life enriching experiences alongside elite technical development.
He leaves the Academy in excellent shape to continue attracting and developing world-class talent, and well-rounded young people.
Director of football, Jason Wilcox said: “Nick has made a huge contribution to Manchester United over the past nine years. I was already well aware of his qualities before I arrived at the club and have really enjoyed working together.
“Identifying and developing the best youth talent remains one of this club’s top priorities, and we are grateful for the work Nick has done to provide such a strong foundation for us to continue to build on. We wish him well for the next stage of his career.”
Nick will remain at United for the coming months to support a smooth transition, with a succession plan already under way to ensure that youth development continues to thrive at the club.
