Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek back in training

Monday 26 July 2021 16:12

There was the welcome sight of Donny van de Beek training with the main group again at Carrington and deep in discussion with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Netherlands international was cruelly robbed of the chance to represent his country at Euro 2020 when he was forced to pull out of the squad on the eve of the tournament due to injury.

The groin problem meant he has been unable to feature in the two pre-season friendlies to date, against Derby County and QPR.

However, with Wednesday's first warm-up game at Old Trafford against Brentford on the horizon, Donny has been back training with a view to getting some minutes under his belt in pre-season.

The 24-year-old will be hoping for more opportunities in 2021/22, having had more chance to bed into life in Manchester and the Premier League.

Donny made 36 appearances in total during his first campaign at United and scored in the opening league game of last term, against Crystal Palace.

The clever midfielder also earned a penalty in the final league fixture of the term, away to Wolves, in a 2-1 victory.

With a full season of adaptation now behind him, and the COVID-19 restrictions starting to lift and help in terms of off-the-field matters, hopefully we will see the true van de Beek, who was a key figure for Ajax and an important member of the Dutch squad.

It promises to be a big campaign for the schemer, who was snapped by our official photographers in discussion with Ole during Monday's session. No doubt the manager will have plans on how to get the best out of his 2020 recruit as he mulls over his selection for the season opener against Leeds United on 14 August.
