Donny shows off devotion to darts

Like fellow countryman and former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, Donny van de Beek is a big fan of darts.

The sport is popular in the Netherlands, with some of the game's top players hailing from there, and the recent World Championship will have made avid viewing for our summer arrival from Ajax.

When we spoke to Donny ahead of the Christmas period, he hinted a new dartboard was one of the things on his wish-list.

See just how good Donny van de Beek is on the oche!

"I mean I’m a big fan of darts," he enthused. "I follow every tournament from the Dutch perspective. It’s one of the things I like really and I will follow it all, for sure.

"I did play a lot before [I came to England] but now I don’t have a board at home yet. I will buy one and I will do it again but I like to watch darts also."

With a top-quality board now up in the van de Beek household, he has been able to show off his skills on his official Instagram page.

One video clip, reproduced above, shows Donny hitting two treble-20s before ending up with a score of 140 to illustrate his prowess with the arrows. He captioned it 'close...' as he chased a maximum score of 180.

We absolutely loved Donny van de Beek’s role in the build-up to this Juan Mata chance…

Hopefully, the midfielder will soon be hitting the target on the pitch as well, as he looks to add to his debut goal against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The 23-year-old has had to be patient in his first season in England but impressed again in the Emirates FA Cup third-round win over Watford at the weekend, producing a sublime flick to set up a chance for Juan Mata in the first half.

He is likely to be in the squad for the trip to Burnley on Tuesday, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reds look to go top of the table.
