Donny's praise for milestone-man Mata
Donny van de Beek was full of praise for milestone man Juan Mata after the duo linked up for the Spaniard's 50th Manchester United goal.
Our Dutch summer signing was in fine form at the Amex Stadium as he set up Mata for his landmark goal with a delightful back-heeled pass. It was van de Beek's first assist in a red shirt, adding to his debut goal against Crystal Palace.
"It was a good ball form Fred to me, it was a strong pass," Donny told MUTV afterwards as he recalled the move.
"I take the one touch to Juan because I already saw that he was making a movement. I think it was a great finish and a great goal from us."
Donny: I'm happy to play with a legend like Juan
In our interview, van de Beek recounts his assist for Mata and explains what it's like to play with the Spaniard...
Donny also spoke of his delight at playing alongside his Spanish team-mate, adding: “I’m really happy to play with players like Juan.
"He’s so creative and an amazing passer. He can play one-touch and that is also what I like. I think we make a good combination on the pitch and, for sure, I'm happy to play with a legend like Juan.”
From the previous 3-2 win at Brighton in the Premier League at the weekend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 10 changes to his team. Donny sees that as a sign of strength.
“You see we have a really good squad with a lot of good players," he insisted. "That is what we need because we have so many games. Everybody needs each other."
The former Ajax man, who won the Eredivise and Dutch cup with the Amsterdam club in the 2018/19 season, is looking to add to his trophy cabinet following the Reds' convincing win on the south coast which secured a Carabao Cup quarter-final spot.
“This gives energy and confidence," he said. "Like I’ve said before, we want to win trophies, I think this is a big opportunity to take one of them. We fight for every prize and this is really important."
