FA Cup fourth round: United drawn away again

Monday 08 January 2024 22:05

Manchester United will face Newport County or Eastleigh away in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Whoever wins the replay between those sides will face the Reds for the first time in our history.

Erik ten Hag's men won 2-0 away at Wigan Athletic in the last of the 32 third-round matches this evening, thanks to goals from Portuguese pair Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes.

The draw, which was made 25 minutes before kick-off by former Tottenham Hotspur captain Gary Mabbutt and ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Emma Byrne, threw up several all-Premier League ties including Chelsea v Aston Villa, Fulham v Newcastle United and Spurs v Manchester City.

James Clarke gave the League Two side the lead just before the hour mark but National League outfit Eastleigh equalised dramatically through Chris Maguire eight minutes from time.

The visitors had to play with 10 men from the 38th minute when George Langston was sent off.
