Early team news ahead of Bournemouth clash

Thursday 02 July 2020 09:00

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must decide whether to keep the same XI that beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0, for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth.

The Reds extended our unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions on Tuesday, thanks to the victory on the south coast - our second in a row in the league, following the 3-0 win over Sheffield United in the previous game.

Ole selected the same team for both matches, although he did make eight changes for the Emirates FA Cup encounter with Norwich City, in between those league triumphs.

Therefore, with no new injuries yet reported, the boss could be tempted to play the same XI again for the visit of Eddie Howe’s men.

Despite that, speaking after Tuesday’s win against Brighton, Ole was keen to highlight the importance of squad rotation during this busy period of fixtures.

“We’ve got many games coming up and we’ll keep chopping and changing and players are getting better and better – the ones who haven’t played,” he told reporters.
“Paul [Pogba], Marcus [Rashford] they’re getting sharper, Mason [Greenwood] is improving all the time and, of course, we’ve got players that didn’t start that have had a fantastic season."

Ole withdrew Pogba, Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes with half an hour left at the Amex Stadium, and also replaced Rashford and Anthony Martial late on, perhaps hinting he may start the quintet again this weekend.

Meanwhile, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones were our only absentees for the game.

The Reds beat Bournemouth 4-1 on the their last trip to Old Trafford.

WHAT ABOUT BOURNEMOUTH?

The Cherries will be without striker Callum Wilson this weekend. The 28-year-old picked up a 10th booking of the season in a recent defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, meaning he missed the midweek clash with Newcastle United and will also be forced to sit out Saturday’s game at Old Trafford.

Apart from that, Charlie Daniels is set to miss the match with a long-term knee problem, but former Red Joshua King should be fit after overcoming a niggling ankle injury and playing the full 90 minutes against Newcastle.
