Fitness boost for United ahead of Milan trip

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received a boost to his squad ahead of Thursday's Europa League round-of-16 second leg at AC Milan.

The Reds were hoping for good news and Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani all trained after their injury lay-offs, while David De Gea was also back at the Aon Training Complex after his spell in Spain for personal reasons.

Pogba has been out since being withdrawn in the 3-3 draw with Everton on 6 February, while fellow midfielder van de Beek was on the bench for the goalless stalemate at Chelsea but last played in the game at West Brom.

Cavani has taken on AC Milan in the past, while playing in Serie A for Palermo and Napoli, and his top-level experience could be useful if he is deemed fit enough to make the flight to Italy.

The centre-forward came off in the Crystal Palace match and has missed the subsequent three fixtures.

United head into the San Siro with the scores level at 1-1, after Simon Kjaer's late equaliser responded to Amad's headed opener last week.

The boss is set to give an update on his plans in a press conference at 13:00 GMT on Wednesday, which will be covered extensively on ManUtd.com, the Official App and MUTV.

LATEST FROM MILAN

Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears to be winning his race to be fit to face his former club after joining training this week. Ismael Bennacer and Alessio Romagnoli are also in line for a return but there are fresh doubts over striker Rafael Leao, who played in the first leg.

Theo Hernandez, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ante Rebic all came back for the costly weekend defeat to Napoli in Serie A.

Davide Calabria is also a doubt and Croatia international Mario Mandzukic looks set to miss out. Diogo Dalot is eligible to play again and it's a doubly special occasion as our loanee celebrates his birthday on Thursday.
