Early team news for Arsenal showdown

Manchester United are back in the capital on Sunday for the crucial clash against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The Reds dropped two points at Crystal Palace in a hastily arranged midweek fixture, frustratingly conceding an injury-time equaliser, but remain in good form heading into the Emirates Stadium showdown.

As the only side to beat the Gunners in the division this term, Erik ten Hag hopes the absence of suspended star Casemiro can be overcome as United chase a victory that would really shake things up at the top of the table.

There are many possibilities for replacing Casemiro - Fred and Scott McTominay came off the bench at Selhurst Park, while the boss could even ponder a switch to a five-man defence with so many strong options available in that area.

Wout Weghorst made his debut on Wednesday, with Anthony Martial injured, and Diogo Dalot also remained sidelined, along with long-term absentee Donny van de Beek.

Jack Butland is eligible again, although he has yet to make the bench since signing on loan from Palace, and Fred is no longer under risk of a ban, as the next threshold is 10 yellow cards.

Jadon Sancho was pictured back in training at Carrington on Thursday.

ARSENAL'S TEAM NEWS

Striker Gabriel Jesus is still missing for the high-flying Gunners, after suffering a knee injury, but Academy product Eddie Nketiah has been deputising impressively for the Brazil international.

The only other concerns for Mikel Arteta would appear to be Mohamed Elneny and Reiss Nelson.

William Saliba and Bukayo Saka came through the north London derby win over Tottenham without picking up a booking that would have incurred a one-match ban for this game.
