Early team news for Burnley v United

Thursday 21 September 2023 15:56

Manchester United are on the road again this Saturday, as we travel to north-west neighbours Burnley in the late Saturday kick-off.

It's a first league meeting between Erik ten Hag and Clarets' boss Vincent Kompany, who of course used to captain rivals Manchester City.

United are keen to reverse the recent run of results which has seen us lose three straight games in all competitions, while Burnley got off the mark in the top flight on Monday night, after drawing 1-1 at Nottingham Forest.

The Reds trained at the FC Bayern Campus on Thursday before flying back from Germany to prepare for Saturday's game, with question marks around the availability of a few players.

Why United are kicking off on Saturday night

There will be a couple of firsts for Erik ten Hag's men at Burnley this weekend.

Harry Maguire missed out on the trip to Munich after reporting some 'complaints' in the last session at Carrington and, although Mason Mount and Raphael Varane returned to the group session on Tuesday, they were not included in the 21-man squad for the flight.

The latter two would appear to be the most obvious candidates from the Reds' injury list to return at Turf Moor, although Ten Hag could update further in Friday's press conference, which you can watch from 13:30 BST on the United App and ManUtd.com.

Loan recruit Sofyan Amrabat and youngster Kobbie Mainoo are back doing individual work on the grass, but our other injury concerns are more long-term.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for several weeks on the sidelines after being hurt during Saturday's defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, while Amad, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw are still out with their respective problems.

Antony and Jadon Sancho are set to be unavailable for the trip to Turf Moor, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports in the UK in the unfamiliar 20:00 BST time, having been moved from the lunchtime slot.

BURNLEY TEAM NEWS

Forward Lyle Foster will be missing as he serves the first of a three-match suspension after he was sent off for violent conduct during the Clarets’ 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on Monday night. Anass Zaroury returned from his own red-card ban at The City Ground.

Vincent Kompany’s injury concerns are long-term in nature, with forwards Michael Obafemi and Darko Churlinov yet to play a part this season.

Centre-back Hjalmar Ekdal looks to be sidelined until at least next month, while full-back Vitinho has missed the last couple of weeks, with both players having knee issues.
