Saturday 17 July 2021 10:00

Manchester United are set to take on Derby County at Pride Park in our first pre-season friendly.

Sunday's 13:00 BST kick-off is live on MUTV and will allow fans a first glimpse of the Reds in our new home kit as preparations continue for the 2021/22 campaign, which gets under way next month.

Wayne Rooney's Rams provide the opposition and it should provide an opportunity for a run-out for a number of United's squad members.

Jesse Lingard trained on Friday on his return to the fold, after an extremely successful spell at West Ham United. The England international, who featured in the warm-up games for Euro 2020, played for Derby on loan back in 2015.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could benefit from the 28-year-old's experience as he is likely to name a youthful squad, with the likes of Will Fish, Di'Shon Bernard, Ethan Galbraith and Joe Hugill among those to spend time in the senior group over the course of the week.

Other youngsters hoping for an opportunity include Matej Kovar, Shola Shoretire, Dylan Levitt, Anthony Elanga and Hannibal, who trained on Friday following his international breakthrough with Tunisia.

Teden Mengi, who spent time with the Rams last term, is joined by other returning loanees such as Andreas Pereira, Facundo Pellistri and James Garner.

Nathan Bishop (Mansfield Town) and Tahith Chong (Birmingham City) have already clinched temporary moves away but have remained at Carrington and are available and in contention to get some minutes.

Lee Grant, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic have been forwarded as some of the leaders of the current group by Ole, with Tom Heaton in line for his debut after arriving for a second spell at the club. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood should also be involved.

The players who took part in the Euros and Copa America will not feature yet.

Another former Red, Tom Lawrence, has been appointed as the new captain, while youngsters Dylan Williams, Isaac Hutchinson and Liam Thompson could be in the frame for an outing this weekend.
