Early team news for Forest semi-final

Monday 23 January 2023 17:00

Manchester United continue our quest to reach Wembley in the Carabao Cup when meeting Nottingham Forest in the first leg of our semi-final at The City Ground.

Wednesday's 20:00 GMT kick-off presents an opportunity to set things up nicely for the second leg at Old Trafford at the start of next month.

Erik ten Hag will be looking for his side to refocus, after costly late goals against Crystal Palace and Arsenal, and can welcome Casemiro back into the fold, after the influential midfielder missed the 3-2 defeat at the Emirates Stadium due to a one-match suspension.

Scott McTominay replaced Casemiro at the weekend, in the only change to the starting line-up at Selhurst Park.

We await any updates on Diogo Dalot and Anthony Martial, who were both unavailable for the game with the Gunners due to injury.

Donny van de Beek has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, after successful knee surgery.

Our training coverage on Monday shows Axel Tuanzebe resuming light training with the group as he begins to reintegrate into the squad, following an injury lay-off.

The exclusive pictures also feature Jadon Sancho, as he continues to work his way back to fitness, and young midfielders Kobbie Mainoo and Zidane Iqbal.

Ten Hag will hold a press conference to discuss the match further, look out for that on our club channels from 12:30 GMT on Tuesday.

FOREST'S TEAM NEWS

Manager Steve Cooper will definitely be without Dean Henderson - the keeper was not permitted to play as part of his loan move from United and has also picked up a thigh injury.

New striker Chris Wood, signed on loan from Newcastle United, is cup-tied having already played for the Magpies in the competition. Another of Forest's latest arrivals, Danilo, is available but Ryan Yates was withdrawn at Bournemouth last time out due to illness.

Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Omar Richards, Moussa Niakhate, Giulian Biancone and Cheikhou Kouyate on the sidelines, although a fresh update is anticipated on the injury list at the club.

Jesse Lingard has returned to fitness, after being substituted in our league at game at Old Trafford on 27 December, and was on the bench at the weekend.

Loic Mbe Soh signed for Guingamp on loan on Monday.
