Early team news for Southampton away

Manchester United and Southampton are busy preparing for Saturday's Premier League clash at St. Mary's Stadium, with training updates giving a steer as to how both squads shape up.

Both sides enter this fixture in buoyant mood, with United defeating Liverpool on Monday night and Southampton beating Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday.

The south-coast club also beat Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Victory in the lunchtime kick-off would see the Reds leapfrog Saints and move up to sixth in the Premier League table, at least for the time being, before any other side has kicked a ball this weekend.

Both of our clashes with Southampton last season ended 1-1 and Erik ten Hag will hope he can get his first competitive away points of the season.

New United midfielder Casemiro could be set for his debut against the Saints on Saturday, after finalising his move from Real Madrid this week. The Brazilian has been training with his new team-mates at Carrington and looked sharp, as you can see from our video below.

Despite Casemiro's arrival, the midfield trio of Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen impressed with their tenacity and work-rate against Liverpool on Monday, so will our new signing to go straight into the starting XI? If Ten Hag opts to stick with the same engine room that started the win over Jurgen Klopp's side on Monday, Casemiro bolsters his options from the bench.

Anthony Martial's return was one of the talking points of Monday night's triumph over our rivals, with the Frenchman joining the action at half-time and providing the assist for Marcus Rashford's lead-extending goal. Given his impact against Jurgen Klopp's side, and a further week in training, Martial could well be in line for his first competitive start of the season on Saturday.

Anthony Elanga was withdrawn for Martial but it's thought this substitution was for tactical reasons.

Victor Lindelof and Facundo Pellistri are United's only two injury concerns as it stands. The Swede hasn't been included in any of our matchday squads so far this season, while Ten Hag confirmed earlier this month that Pellistri will be missing until September.

Erik will brief the media in his press conference at 13:30 BST on Friday, and could give further clues as to the team he will select at St. Mary's.

SOUTHAMPTON'S TEAM NEWS

For the hosts, Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed on Thursday that French full-back Romain Perraud is back in contention after recovering from a groin injury. The defender had missed last week's win over Leicester and the midweek victory against Cambridge United.

Fellow defender Tino Livramento remains sidelined with a long-term knee injury, but other than the youngster, Hassenhutl has no further fitness worries.
