Cavani: I’d love to play with Cantona

Edinson Cavani has named Manchester United icon Eric Cantona as the Red from the past he'd most like to have played with.

El Matador was back in the United shirt in our away meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux before the international break and is also fit for Newcastle United's visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

The win in the Black Country was also Cavani’s last appearance wearing the iconic no.7 for then Reds, before elegantly passing the baton to the returning Cristiano Ronaldo. Our prolific striker will now don the no.21 shirt, the same number he wears for the Uruguayan national team.

But another legendary United no.7 was the topic of conversation in a recent question-and-answer session with supporters.

Azrie from Malaysia asked our 34-year-old forward: If you could play with a Reds legend, who would it be and why?

Cavani did not take long to come up with an answer.

"I reckon that Cantona would be a player with whom I would have liked to share the pitch here," our no. 21 said.

"That is because of his character and for the way he lived out his football. And as I said for his personality out there on the pitch."

Just imagine the elegant Cantona setting up the ruthless Cavani in front of goal... What a duo they would have been for United!
