Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani is part of the Uruguay squad for the 2021 Copa America in Brazil, which gets under way on Sunday.

The 34-year-old was named as one of 26 players on Thursday by experienced coach Oscar Tabarez, as Uruguay aim to claim the title for a record-extending 16th time.

Edi didn't feature in the recent goalless draws with Venezuela and Paraguay in World Cup qualifying, as he was serving a two-match suspension for a red card he was issued when playing against Brazil in November 2020.

Our no.17 is among nine Premier League players named in Brazil's summer tournament squad.

However, the former PSG man, who recently celebrated the birth of his fourth child, has been training with his team-mates and will look to make his mark on what will be his 10th summer tournament.

Cavani joins the likes of Diego Godin and Luis Suarez as survivors from Uruguay's triumph in this tournament 10 years ago and their experience is complemented by promising youngsters, such as Real Madrid's Federico Valverde and Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

Uruguay have been drawn in Group A of the competition, alongside Argentina – who were meant to host the competition initially – plus Bolivia, Chile and Paraguay.

The top four teams will make it through to the quarter-finals and La Celeste kick off their campaign next Friday, with a huge clash against Argentina in Brasilia.
