Toone claims Goal of the Season

Toone, who is also the club’s Player of the Season, topped the fans’ poll in the United App, as you voted her dipping long-range shot against West Bromwich Albion in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup the best of the campaign.

The fourth-round win over the Baggies was our most comprehensive of the term, as the Reds fired seven unanswered goals past the FA Women's National League North outfit.

Melvine Malard opened the scoring, Celin Bizet added a hat-trick and Rachel Williams contributed a brace, but the finest viewing of the afternoon came courtesy of Toone’s right foot.

With United 3-0 up and cruising, Ella passed a short corner to Anna Sandberg and continued her run, collecting the return from the Swede.

As she entered the area with two Baggies defenders deployed to close her down, there seemed to be little danger for the visitors, but one brutal swing of the boot was all it took.

The ball rose and then dipped just in time to kiss Anna Miller’s crossbar and nestle in the net, as Toone ran away to take the acclaim.

It was her first goal of 2024/25 and she hadn’t actually scored competitively for United since the 2024 FA Cup final – funnily enough, that was the strike she won this award for last term.

Grace Clinton finished in second place, for her effort from miles out at Aston Villa.

Captain Maya Le Tissier was third with another screamer – her half-volley from the edge of the area against Everton on Merseyside.
