Toone: I like scoring chips!

Sunday 10 December 2023 21:44

Manchester United Women midfielder Ella Toone found herself on the scoresheet yet again in Sunday's 4-0 Women's Super League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Our no.7 lofted the ball over the head of goalkeeper Becky Spencer to double our advantage early in the second half - an almost mirror image of her European Championship final opener for England.

“I like scoring chips apparently!” Toone told Sky Sports at full-time, after being named their Player of the Match.

“It was a great ball by Melv [Malard]. I ran in behind and saw the goalkeeper coming out, so all I needed to do was get it over and luckily it went in the back of the net.”

The Reds defeated Spurs 4-0 in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

Goals from Hannah Blundell, Melvine Malard, and Hayley Ladd sealed the victory for Marc Skinner’s side, as the Reds returned to action after the international break with an important victory on the road.

“We know we’ve got depth in the squad, we’ve got players who can come on from the bench and change games and get on the scoresheet as well,” Toone added.

“It’s nice when goals come from all over the pitch. No matter who gets the goal, we’re always happy as a team and we’re really happy with the three points.”
Sunday’s victory sees United go within a point of third-placed Manchester City in the WSL table, as Chelsea and Arsenal lead the way in first and second.

“The table is unbelievable,” Toone continued, discussing the competitiveness of the division.

“The team’s in it are great and anyone can take points from anyone, so it’s nice to be a part of it.”
