The performances of Manchester United’s Ella Toone in 2021/22 have been recognised by her fellow professionals with our no.7 nominated for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year award.

The 22-year-old is among a six-player shortlist for the youthful prize that has been voted on by PFA members ahead of the 49th annual ceremony.

This year’s event will take place on Thursday 9 June and be broadcast on the organisation’s social media channels, where the winner will be announced along with the recipients of several other accolades including the men’s and women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

Named alongside Toone in the running is Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp, former Red and now-Chelsea forward Lauren James, Frida Maanum of Arsenal, Jessica Naz (Tottenham Hotspur) and Maya Le Tissier (Brighton & Hove Albion).

A breakdown of the Reds' inaugural campaign under head coach Marc Skinner, featuring every game from September to May.

The nomination comes off the back of another standout campaign from our no.7 in the red of United.

The midfielder was a mainstay in Marc Skinner’s side across the season, playing each and every one of our 22 WSL matches as the Reds registered a fourth-place finish.

In those games, our all-time record scorer tallied up 15 direct goal contributions, breaking down into seven goals and eight assists (no player in the league had more of the latter).

This is the latest award that Toone has been shortlisted for following her commendable term, having recently been up for the league’s PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Year and the WSL’s Player of the Season prize.
