Toone is United Women's Player of the Year

Ella Toone has been crowned Manchester United Women's Player of the Year for 2023/24, following another stellar season for our no.7.

The result of the fan-voted award comes just six days after the absolute highlight of Toone's club career so far, when she won her first major trophy as a Red – the Adobe Women's FA Cup at Wembley.

The England international scored the stunning first goal in the final, of course, getting us off our seats with her strike into the top right-corner on the brink of half-time. But it's her performances across the entire campaign that have persuaded the fans to vote for Ella, making her our Player of the Year for the second time.

Toone previously received the award in 2021/22, before handing it over to her former team-mate (and podcast sidekick) Alessia Russo in 2022/23.

Ella's other highlights in 2023/24 include becoming the first player to score 50 goals for United Women. The attacking midfielder reached that milestone in March, with the first of her two strikes on the day helping the Reds rally from 0-1 down to beat Everton 4-1 at Leigh Sports Village.

Toone said at the time: "It's a really special day for me. I pride myself on goals and assists. To score 50 goals for your club is a dream come true.

"It's really nice to be the first United Women's player to reach 50, but for me it's not about that, it's about winning games week in, week out."
The following month, April, she claimed our Player of the Month award, after scoring a marvellous long-range winner at Leicester and setting up Rachel Williams' header in our historic first win over Chelsea.

It was the player's third monthly award of 2023/24, and few would bet against her making it four when voting begins for the May prize once our final fixture of the season – Saturday's WSL meeting with Chelsea at Old Trafford – is out of the way.

Toone was the clear winner in our fan poll, claiming almost half of all the votes (48 per cent).

In second place was popular goalkeeper Mary Earps (22 per cent), who did so much to help the Reds reach that FA Cup final via a heroic display in the semi-final victory over Chelsea.

In third? Lucia Garcia, the tenacious Spanish forward, who put the icing on the cake at Wembley by adding two second-half goals to complete the resounding 4-0 win.

Thanks to everyone who voted, and congratulations, Ella, on your second Player of the Year award!
