Toone wins Player of the Year award
Ella Toone has been named Manchester United Women’s Player of the Year for 2021/22, after claiming the highest percentage in our fans' vote.
Toone is the fourth winner of the award, presented by @adidasfootball, after continuing her brilliant development this term.
The 22-year-old attacker continues to be one of the hottest prospects in the Women’s Super League, and returned impressive numbers in 2021/22.
In all competitions, Toone scored nine goals in 29 appearances, accumulating eight assists. She finished joint-top of the WSL assists table and seven of her nine goals came in the top-flight.
Toone recognised for impressive season
ArticleUnited Women's Ella is up for another award following her exploits in 2021/22! Here are the details...
In December, the England international was presented with the WSL Player of the Month award after a month which saw United Women win both games, and Toone score twice in our 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.
In addition to her WSL award, Toone was also named PFA WSL Fans’ Player of the Month back in October, after her brilliant start to the season.
The 22-year-old continued that form through to the end of the campaign, with Marc Skinner’s side narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification.
In recognition of her efforts, Toone is also nominated for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year award and has been selected in England’s provisional squad for the European Championship this summer.
Following Toone’s landmark 100th appearance for United Women in April - she was the first Red to reach that figure - Skinner expressed his admiration for the 22-year-old.
He said: “She’s a wonderful player for this club and she’s got lots of aspirations of being a top, top player.
“[She is] someone I love working with every day to try and make her that player that she wants to be.”
Toone follows Katie Zelem, Hayley Ladd and Ona Batlle in being named United Women's Player of the Year, although she is the first to be crowned by supporters - previous gongs have been handed out by coaching staff and players.
This year, a Players' Player of the Year prize has been introduced, with Alessia Russo - who came second in the POTY vote - confirmed as the winner of that on Monday.
Thank you to all who participated, and congratulations on your award, Ella!
