Toone ends January with two fan-voted awards
United Women no.7 Ella Toone has completed a prestigious awards double for January, after topping the polls for our Player and Goal of the Month prizes.
Ella’s first of three finishes against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium has also been recognised as our Goal of the Month with 49 per cent of votes cast.
Toone completes the top three in the GOTM voting: her stunner against West Bromwich Albion in the Adobe FA Cup finished second on 16 per cent, followed by her deft finish against Brighton & Hove Albion in the WSL on 11 per cent.
Congratulations on your success, Ella, and thanks to everyone who voted.
TOONE’S INFLUENTIAL JANUARY
This awards success caps a significant month for our iconic no.7, after she returned from the first major injury of her career to score five goals in four matches.
As well as being a legend on the pitch, Tooney has also shown her strength of character and inspirational personality while dealing with a family bereavement.
Her dad, Nick, sadly passed away in September and, this week, Ella opened up about her grief throughout a deeply moving article for The Players’ Tribune.
“This is my first try at really talking about it,” explains the England international. “But I wanted to write this, for anyone grieving and feeling alone.”
We encourage all of our fans to read Tooney’s words – you can find it here.
Ella's article inspired a massive reaction across social media and men's captain Bruno Fernandes was among those to reach out on Instagram.
The Portuguese left this comment: “We're all with you Ella. Your Dad would be so proud of the person that you are and he will be cheering for you every step of the way."
