Erik ten Hag has saluted the Manchester United crowd as the home season drew to a close with a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League.

An entertaining match unfolded at Old Trafford, rewarding the fans for their loyalty and backing throughout what has sometimes been a difficult campaign, and the support was recognised by the manager during his time on the microphone.

Erik made clear that the players will give everything they can to win the Emirates FA Cup, with the final against Manchester City to come after our final-day Premier League encounter at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Erik ten Hag had a stirring message to get across, following our final home game of the season…

"On behalf of the players, the staff and myself, I'd like to thank you all for the brilliant support during the season," said the manager, out on the pitch.

"As you know, it wasn't an easy season, but one thing remained constant, and that was the backing of you for the team.

"But this season is not over yet. First at Brighton, we go for three points again, and then we go to Wembley.

"I promise you that those players will give everything. Everything to end it good, to win the cup and bring it to Old Trafford.

"And we are sure that you will be there, supporting us. Thank you for being the best supporters in the world. Thank you!"

The Reds won an action-packed game after taking a first-half lead through Kobbie Mainoo's precise finish. Both sides had chances before Anthony Gordon levelled soon after the interval.

Amad restored the lead with a thumping drive and substitute Rasmus Hojlund added a superb third, only for Lewis Hall to belt home and prompt a nervy finale. However, it was the hosts who came closest in the dying seconds to scoring again, when Hojlund just failed to find Marcus Rashford in the middle, and it means the teams are level on 57 points, but the Magpies have the superior goal difference.

Newcastle are at Brentford on Sunday, with United travelling to Brighton & Hove Albion.
