Ten Hag confirms Everton touchline arrangements

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that assistant coach Mitchell van der Gaag will be the man on the touchline during Manchester United's trip to Everton on Sunday.

Ten Hag is serving a one-match suspension after picking up three yellow cards in the Premier League this season, during our matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Luton Town.

The boss will not be permitted to take up his usual position in the dugout for the meeting at Goodison Park, although he can watch the game from the director's box and use a communication device to give instructions to his staff.

He is also allowed to enter the dressing rooms before and after the match, and at half-time.

Ten Hag was shown a yellow card during our last outing.

United are the form team in the Premier League, picking up four wins from our last five games, although this weekend’s hosts are likely to be fired up after the Premier League deducted 10 points from their season’s tally during the international break for a breach of the division's financial rules.

In his pre-match interview with MUTV’s Zarah Connolly, the Dutchman revealed that it would be compatriot van der Gaag filling in for him pitchside.

As he discussed spectating from an alternative vantage point, Ten Hag reiterated his confidence in his highly experienced team of staff, which also contains fellow assistant coach Steve McClaren.

“I’m quite confident. I will have an even better overview [from the stands], but we have a very good backroom staff,” he said.

“They are very capable and experienced, so they know what to do. That will not affect our game.”

An assistant to Ten Hag at Ajax as well as United, Van der Gaag has more than a decade's worth of experience as a head coach.

He cut his teeth with Maritimo and Belenenses in Portugal and, after a short spell in Cyprus, returned to his native Netherlands where he took charge of FC Eindhoven, Excelsior, NAC Breda and Ajax's youth team.
