Ten Hag reveals team news for Barcelona tie

Wednesday 22 February 2023 12:00

Manchester United will aim to complete the job against La Liga leaders Barcelona in the second leg of the Europa League play-off at Old Trafford.

The Reds secured an excellent 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp last week and are bolstered by the return of defender Lisandro Martinez and midfielder Marcel Sabitzer for the home game.

Both were suspended for the tie in Spain but will be available for Erik ten Hag this time around. Speaking at his press conference to preview the blockbuster clash, the manager provided an update on his squad as anticipation builds for Thursday's 20:00 GMT kick-off.

There is good news regarding Harry Maguire and Antony as both are in line for inclusion in the matchday squad, despite having injury issues, while Scott McTominay returned after his absence as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Leicester City at the weekend.

Anthony Martial is also making progress, even if the game does come too soon for the French forward.

Meanwhile, midfielders Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen are still ruled out.

"There's still a training session to go but I expect Harry Maguire and Antony dos Santos [to be] available," the manager told reporters. "Anthony Martial is not available.

"He's back on the pitch but not in the team training, so we'll wait for that. What [will] we do differently? You will see tomorrow, on the pitch. We have an idea of course, but of course we can't tell [you] that now."

BARCELONA'S TEAM NEWS

Xavi has named a 20-man squad for the flight to Manchester, including fit-again Sergio Busquets, who was an unused substitute in the 2-0 weekend win over Cadiz.

Pedri is out with injury and Gavi serves a one-match suspension after his booking in the first leg.

Ousmane Dembele is still sidelined while young winger Angel Alarcon drops out of the group.
